The Alexander Technique gives musicians and singers a profound and effective set of principles to help them play and perform more freely and expressively while putting less stress and strain on their bodies. It has been widely used by musicians and other performers for almost a hundred years to help them improve their playing and take care of their health.

In this workshop we will introduce the principles of the Technique through hands on practical experience. There will be a chance to explore any issues you may be having with your playing, or with stress, strain or pain related to your music making. You should leave with some new insights and understanding, and some practical ideas to put into practice.

Alexander students rid themselves of bad postural habits and are helped to reach with their bodies and minds, an enviable degree of freedom of expression.

Workshop — An Introduction to the Alexander Technique!

The Alexander Technique gives you a profound and effective set of principles and practices to help you explore your feelings, ideas and beliefs about yourself and how you do things, and to enable you to look freshly at how you go about the business of living. Learning the Technique helps you to become aware of patterns of moving, being and reacting which are not helpful for you — and to experience more free, relaxed and beneficial ones. We work with everyday movements such as sitting, standing, speaking and walking to explore breathing, balance, support and flow. We can also work directly with skills such as music, dance and horse riding etc.

In this workshop we will use anything in your life which you wish to bring as a basis for exploring the Technique. There will be lots of practical hands on experience, and you should leave with some new insights and understanding, and some practical ideas to put into practice.

Find Your Voice!

This is a workshop for anyone who believes they can’t sing, is nervous of singing, or was told they couldn't sing as a child. Together we will create a safe and welcoming space to find your voice!

Singing is a birthright! However, many people had a bad early experience as singers in which they were judged or written off for reasons which are usually more to do with bad teaching than any innate problem in the pupil. In this small group workshop we will explore how we can become comfortable with our voices and free ourselves to make musical sounds without stress, shame or judgment! It will be a relaxing, fun and hopefully inspiring opportunity to find the song in yourself.

The workshop will take place at Hamblin Hall in Bosham. It is being organised by them, so please contact them directly for more info and to book.

Breathing for Singers

This is a workshop for anyone who sings and would like to know how they can improve their voice, and feel more comfortable singing, using principles from the Alexander Technique.

We will discuss what breathing is, how we interfere with it, and how we can free our breath to improve our singing. We will also be looking at how our posture relates to our breath and to the voice. There will be a mixture of group work and one to one attention, and you will go home with some insights and ideas to put into practice.

This workshop is open to anyone who enjoys singing, and it is particularly suitable for those without much formal training who would like to explore ways to improve their skill and enjoyment. It last for about three hours, tea and cake will be provided! Places are limited so please book early.
